Anthony Smith, 84, spent more than two months sailing more than 5,600 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean in a self-made rubber boat with his crew, staging a real-life story of the old man and the sea, the Kayaker Daily Mail reported on February 27.

On January 14, 2011, Old Smith and his three other crew sailed together in a homemade "Antiki" rubber boat from the Spanish Canary Islands to the Bahamas on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Eleuthera, and began their transatlantic program.

It is reported that the "Antiki" rubber boat is made of thick poles and water pipes. It takes seven weeks to build. It is 12 meters long and 5.5 meters wide. The speed is only 2 knots. It is slower than walking speed. If you travel 80 kilometers per day, it will take several months to complete the voyage.

Two months later, the storm made their voyage difficult because they couldn't reach Ilyusala within the stipulated time. They were forced to change their destinations. Eventually, after 66 days and a voyage of nearly 4,000 kilometers, they reached St Martin, more than 1,100 kilometers south of Ilyusala, in the Caribbean, and ended their first voyage with regret.

In April 2012, Smith raised three more crew members to complete the rest of his last voyage to reach his dream destination, Ilyusala, and finally arrived victoriously.

Smith said in an interview that the British poet Eliot once said that "old people should also be explorers," which gave him great encouragement, he thanked the "Antiki" to fulfill his dream of challenging his own limits. It is reported that Smith has always been a keen outdoor adventure, he once drifted more than 3,000 kilometers on the Amazon in a canoe, but also had a motorcycle across the African continent
